System Semiconductor Engineering

The Department of System Semiconductor Engineering was established through a collaboration between Yonsei University and Samsung Electronics to develop world-class talent in the system semiconductor field, which will lead future industries. Its goal is to produce highly skilled technical professionals with the academic grounding to meet demand and lead technology in system semiconductors — integrating existing semiconductor technology with cutting-edge nano-device and system software technologies.

Students in the department receive intensive education in both "semiconductors" and the hardware and software "systems" that drive them efficiently. The curriculum covers semiconductor physics, fabrication processes, devices, analog and digital circuits, system architecture, and software systems — spanning the entire hierarchy from fundamental semiconductor processes to the highest system level. Topics include new semiconductor processes and devices, circuits for consumer electronics, processors and memory for smartphones, and the hardware and software systems needed for autonomous vehicles and AI applications.

To develop talent capable of responding to and leading rapid technological change in system semiconductors, the department offers a combination of theoretical and laboratory coursework with state-of-the-art facilities, practical training through industry visits, and hands-on experience solving real-world problems.
